The Best Locations to Film in Miami: A Neighborhood Guide

By 561 Media - August 7, 2026

Miami offers more visual variety per square mile than almost any other production market in the country. The challenge isn’t finding a good location, it’s picking the right one for the project and knowing what it takes to actually shoot there. Here’s a practical breakdown by neighborhood.

Brickell

Miami’s financial core, all glass towers and skyline views. Best for corporate video, brand films that want a “modern, moving fast” energy, and any project that needs a polished urban backdrop. Rooftop access usually requires building permission arranged in advance, on top of any city film permit.

Wynwood

Murals, warehouses, and an art-district feel that reads as creative and youthful on camera. Strong fit for brand content, music videos, and fashion or lifestyle shoots that want texture and color rather than a clean corporate look. Street-level shoots here draw foot traffic, which is part of the appeal and part of the logistics to plan around.

Miami Beach

The look most people picture when they think “Miami”: beach, Art Deco architecture, and South Beach energy. Strong for lifestyle, hospitality, tourism, and brand video. Beach shoots need permits, and popular stretches get crowded, so timing (early morning is common) matters more here than almost anywhere else on this list.

Coral Gables

Tree-lined streets, Mediterranean Revival architecture, and a quieter, upscale feel. A good fit for real estate, professional services, and any brand that wants “established and elegant” over “flashy.” Easier to shoot in than the denser urban neighborhoods, with fewer crowd and traffic complications.

Downtown Miami

Dense, vertical, and fast-moving, with a mix of financial and cultural landmarks. Works well for corporate and commercial work that wants an unmistakably urban Miami look. Traffic and pedestrian volume are real production considerations here, and permits are typically required for anything beyond a small run-and-gun crew.

Biscayne Bay and the Waterfront

Open water, skyline views from the water side, and strong options for both ground and drone shots. A natural fit for luxury, real estate, and lifestyle content that wants to sell “Miami living” specifically. Boat and dock access adds logistics but often makes the shot worth it.

Fort Lauderdale

Just north of Miami, with its own waterfront and yacht-culture identity distinct from Miami proper. Useful when a project wants coastal South Florida without the density of Miami’s urban core, and a common choice for marine, luxury, and hospitality clients based in Broward County.

Permits Are the Part People Underestimate

Almost every municipality in South Florida requires a permit for commercial filming on public property, and requirements vary by city, not just by neighborhood. Beach access, road closures, and drone operation all have their own layers of approval. Planning permits into the production timeline, rather than treating them as an afterthought, is usually the difference between a smooth shoot day and a scrambled one.

Choosing the Right Location for Your Project

The best location isn’t always the most photogenic one, it’s the one that matches the story. A financial services brand doesn’t need Wynwood’s mural walls, and a fashion brand doesn’t need Brickell’s office towers. Matching neighborhood to message is part of the pre-production process, not an afterthought.
